Using NDIS for Counselling
If you’re an NDIS participant with funding under Improved Daily Living, you may be able to access counselling through TheraFind. We support self-managed and plan-managed participants.
Who Can Use NDIS for Counselling?
If your NDIS plan includes funding for:
- Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living
- Emotional wellbeing and mental health supports
…you can likely use those funds to see a qualified counsellor listed on TheraFind.
We currently support:
- Self-Managed participants
- Plan-Managed participants
- NDIA-Managed participants (unless therapist is NDIS registered)
What’s the Difference?
| Participant Type | Can Book Through TheraFind? | How They Pay |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Managed | Yes | Pay upfront or request invoice → claim through myGov |
| Plan-Managed | Yes | Therapist sends invoice to your Plan Manager |
| NDIA-Managed | No | Must use registered NDIS providers only |
How to Claim as a Self-Managed Participant
- Book your session through TheraFind.
- Choose to pay upfront or request an invoice first.
- Receive a claim-ready invoice from your counsellor (includes ABN, service details, and cost).
- Submit the invoice through your myGov NDIS portal.
- The NDIS will reimburse you directly to your nominated bank account.
NDIS sessions must be booked at least 7 days in advance to allow time for claiming and payment.
